A city in Moab, east of the Jordan, named among lands that Israel claimed after defeating the Amorite king Sihon. Scripture links Nebo both to Israel's settlement and to Moab's resistance: the towns conquered appear in numbers and chronicles, while the prophets later pronounced judgment on Nebo as a Moabite stronghold. The mountain sometimes identifies with the western slope of Mount Pisgah, the final view Moses glimpsed before his death.
