A major Mediterranean port city built by Herod the Great on the coast of Judea, serving as a Roman administrative center and the residence of governors. Paul was held prisoner there for two years under the Roman governor Felix, defending himself before him and his successor Festus. From Caesarea, Paul eventually sailed to Rome for his trial.
