Multiple Egyptian rulers appear across Scripture, most prominently the one who enslaved Israel and the one who later allied with Solomon by marrying his daughter. The title serves as the generic name for the reigning king of Egypt throughout the Old Testament accounts of both oppression and later political dealings. Pharaoh represents the pagan powers that either tormented God's people or, like any earthly king, gave and withdrew favor.

Hear their story sung

"“Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Behold, it has not been bound up, to apply medicines, to put a bandage to bind it, that it become strong to hold the sword."
Ezekiel 30
