Kenaz appears in genealogies as an Edomite clan chief, but the name is most remembered through Othniel son of Kenaz, a Judahite who became Israel's first judge. Othniel led Israel to victory against the king of Mesopotamia and judged the people for forty years. Kenaz's line produced one of Israel's deliverers.
