John Mark was a young Jewish believer who traveled with Paul and Barnabas on their missionary journey but turned back in Pamphylia, causing tension between the apostles. Later he became valuable to Paul's ministry, and Peter referred to him affectionately in his letter. Mark's gospel preserves the apostolic witness to Jesus's life and resurrection, making his later faithfulness crucial to the church.
