A son of Herod the Great, Antipas ruled as tetrarch over Galilee and Perea during Jesus' public ministry. He is remembered chiefly for his marriage to Herodias, his brother's widow, which brought John the Baptist's condemnation and ultimately John's execution at Antipas' command. Jesus referred to Antipas as 'that fox,' and Antipas himself became curious about Jesus, seeking to see him after John's death.
