A son of Zeruiah and brother to Joab, Abishai was one of David's most loyal military commanders, known for his valor and devotion. He appears repeatedly defending David in battle and in loyalty during crises, most notably when he shielded David during a rescue and when he opposed the cursing Shimei. His consistent support made him indispensable to David's survival and success.
