Abel was Adam's second son, a keeper of flocks whose offering pleased the Lord while his brother Cain's did not. Cain's jealousy led him to murder Abel in the field - the first human death recorded in Scripture. Jesus later named Abel as the first righteous one shed upon the earth, and his blood cried out from the ground for justice.
